Cranial Sacral Therapy

The Upledger method of Cranial Sacral Therapy was developed by Dr John Upledger, Upledger Institute, USA. The theory and practise is based on the understanding that there is a continuous subtle rhythmic movement that originates from cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the spinal cord and brain. The gentle tension from the movement of this fluid affects the membranes that are in the skull and spinal column. This movement extends outward to the entire body.

Cranial Sacral Therapy is used to improve the movement of cerebrospinal fluid and reduce tension, through gentle manipulation of the head and spine. The therapist gently works with the spine, skull and it's cranial sutures, diaphragms and fascia. She uses her hands to detect disturbances in the cranial rhythm, to help identify areas of dysfunction in the soft tissue and restrictions in the body.

A consultation is taken and you remain fully clothed during the treatment, which lasts an hour.

The goal of the treatment is to encourage your body's own ability to correct and heal itself, to relieve restrictions, discomfort, stress and pain. Excellent for improving the function of the nervous system and increasing mobility in the muscles and joints.

Cranial Sacral therapy has been used to improve stress disorders, insomnia, headaches, muscle and joint pain, neurological conditions and pain syndromes, Autism and learning difficulties, emotional issues, to name but a few. I have also used it to treat clients with Dementia, with positive changes.
